Social Software in Surveillance
Presently, the methods used to monitor all the activities and to gather information from the public has evolved. Aside from the common use of CCTV cameras and public recording systems, the current surveillance has already become digital.
Social software like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and the like help the public sectors and the authorities continue to watch over the behaviour and goings-on of people. Since a lot of individuals spend most of their time updating their social networking friends with what they are doing through these sites, authorities find it easier to track the actions of people, especially those that exhibit suspicious moves. While plenty of people see social software as a new way of connecting with their loved ones, government agencies also use it as part of their surveillance measures.
